| I competed in the Portuguese International Open in Mafra, near Lisbon, in the junior male Kata which attracted 19 competitors from various countries. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| The competitors were divided into two pools, A and B. I was drawn in pool B. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| All of the competitors warmed up in the 'warm up room' until we were called down to the arena where we then lined up on the tatami and began the competition. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| I won pool B securing all 3 flags in every round taking me into the final with the winner of pool A. The final was to held later on in the day. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Amongst the competitors in my category was the Kuwait national champion and 2 x WKF world bronze medalist Yousif Al Harbi, and the Portuguese national champion and ESKA European champion Jorge Caeiros. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| In the final I was to face Pedro Monteiro from the Portugal national kata team. The lights in the stadium were turned off and a spot light lit up the tatami used for the final. We were called for the final and bowed to the audience which consisted of around 300 people then stepped onto the mat. | |||||||||||||||||||||
